Dear Parents/Caregivers

Here is some information to help assist with a smooth transition to school.

CLASS TIMES
It is important to ensure that your child is at school by 8.45 a.m. to enable him/her to organise their own lunch things and book bag.

SHADY SCHOOL POLICY
We encourage children to take care of themselves in the sun. Please ensure your child has a sunhat to keep at school.

CLOTHING
Please place spare clothes in your child’s school bag.  Accidents do happen and children like to change into their own clothes. It is very important to name your child's clothing, lunch box and drink bottle. Towels should also be named during the swimming season.

FOOTWEAR
Children are required to remove outdoor shoes before entering the classroom.  As a result they need to be able to remove and replace footwear easily.  If they have laces they need to be able to tie them independently.

INDEPENDENCE AT FIVE
Encourage your child to take responsibility for personal belongings. Allow them the opportunity to do as much for themselves as possible, such as carrying their bag into school and unpacking it independently. You will be helping them to develop confidence and self-assurance by "doing" for themselves.

TOYS
Please do not allow toys to come to school with your child, as it is very difficult to ensure their safe return home.

LUNCHES
We have two ten minute supervised eating sessions.  These are at the beginning of each 40 minute break.  Children need to have something substantial to eat at both breaks e.g. sandwiches, yoghurt, crackers and cheese as well as some fruit.  We have noticed that the children are often very hungry at the first break and sometimes do not have enough food to eat at lunch time.

Children are able to order lunches for Friday lunch time.  The money must be handed to the classroom teacher before 9am on a Thursday morning.  Please write your child’s order on the outside of the envelope.

HOMEWORK
Children are expected to read their books / or poetry each night (Monday-Friday).

It is essential that "Homework" is done in a positive and supportive manner. Encourage them to "have a go" and praise their efforts. If your child is tired, then read along with them or to them.

Please remember to sign the homebook once the reading has been done.

STATIONERY
A list is included in this pack.  Please bring all stationery to school as soon as possible because the children can work in these books during their school visits.

CLASSROOM ASSISTANCE
Parents/Grandparents/Caregivers are welcome to assist in the classroom.  Please talk to the classroom teacher about this.
